In 2009, the American Design Club sponsored a show at The Future Perfect in Brooklyn, revolving around the theme of color in contemporary design. Timothy Liles, former footwear designer at Converse, Art Director at Hurley, and furniture/product designer, came up with these artful gems.

For obvious reasons, they have proven to be a product with true mass appeal, and are now sold in galleries all over the world. I like them because they are reminiscent of ’90s New York street jewelry I used to buy in SoHo, and, well, because they are crayons.

They seem to hit a nostalgic and happy spot for so many different types of people, and that makes me happy.

Cheers to the unexpected.
